Documentation

Welcome to the Glimpse Documentation! Here we hope to introduce you to the various tutorials, concepts and APIs you might need when discovering and using Glimpse.

NOTE: Glimpse docs are currently being improved. If you'd like to help out, just edit this page or contribute to our GitHub Wiki

Tabs

The diagnostics information displayed in the Glimpse panel is organised into tabs. Each tab contains data specific to various server side concerns, and comes as part of a NuGet package.

Concepts

Tabs are one of two main means (the other being Heads-up Display) by which data is is transfered from the core of Glimpse to the UI. The tabs that are shown are driven by which packages you have referenced or have created yourself.

Make your own

Are you interested in creating your own tabs? It really is quite easy and straight forward.

Core

These tabs are part of the core Glimpse package, and so are always part of a Glimpse installation. They are not specific to any web development framework:

Tabs

Note: Ajax and History tabs allow you to change the HTTP request that Glimpse is currently displaying information for. Unlike all the other tabs, they don't display diagnostics information.

Package

  • Glimpse - Install-Package Glimpse

ASP.NET

The Glimpse.AspNet package adds these tabs to Glimpse, which can be used for diagnosing problems common to ASP.NET based frameworks:

ASP.NET MVC

In addition to the ASP.NET tabs above, the Glimpse.Mvc4, Glimpse.Mvc3 and Glimpse.Mvc2 packages add these tabs with functionality specific for Microsoft's ASP.NET MVC framework:

Packages

ADO.NET & EF

The Glimpse.ADO package adds the SQL tab, which provides insights into the ADO.NET operations that your system is performing. Entity Framework specific packages are available as well for Glimpse.EF6, Glimpse.EF5 and Glimpse.EF43.

OR if you are just using ADO directly:

And More!

Glimpse is an entirely extensible platform, with many third party tabs available to help with many .NET frameworks.
